Me Time for Moms: 7 Creative Ways to Make Time For Yourself At Home
If you’re a stay at home mom craving some me-time, you’ve come to the right place! Me time for moms is insanely important for many reasons. Keep reading for 7 creative ways you can get that me time, right at home!
Me time for moms is beneficial for many reasons. And I think me time and self care can get opinionated and confusing in our modern world. Some moms claim that basic needs are not self care, but I like to challenge that. I truly believe anything you do to feel better and to feel recharged is self care, especially when you’re a mom. Moms don’t always get the chance to do big self care things like massages, pedicures, and salon trips. That means they must get creative while also accepting that any little thing they do to take care of themselves is great! It’s enough and it matters. I think our society needs to stop making self care feel unattainable, so moms don’t become burnt out and feeling like they can’t take care of themselves.
Being a stay at home mom is challenging and extremely demanding, I know you know that! Amidst the responsibilities of caring for your children, managing the household chores, a social life, and other commitments, finding time for yourself can often take a backseat. But missing a shower a couple days in a row, not eating until 1PM, or never taking time to do something you love is no way to live or be a mother. It definitely doesn’t make you a better mom.
Prioritizing me-time is crucial for maintaining your mental health, reducing stress, and ultimately becoming a happier and more effective mama. In this blog post, we’ll explore seven creative ways stay at home moms can carve out essential “me-time” right at home, along with understanding why this time is vital. Let’s go!

Why Me Time For Moms Is So Important
Before diving into the ways to carve out “me-time,” let’s first understand why it’s so important for stay at home moms. “Me-time” allows moms to recharge and rejuvenate, promoting overall well-being. Here are some key reasons why it matters:
1. Recharge and Reset
As a stay at home mom you are constantly attending to the needs of your kids and it can be extremely draining. Taking time for yourself helps recharge your energy levels and fosters a sense of renewal. Always remember, taking care of yourself is taking care of your family, so don’t feel guilty about it!
2. Reduce Stress
Feeling stressed and overwhelmed? Engaging in activities you enjoy can significantly reduce those stress levels and promote relaxation, ultimately benefiting both mental and physical health. You matter, mama.
3. Boost Mental Health
Prioritizing “me-time” supports better mental health by offering moments of solitude and self-reflection. If you never take care of yourself, you will walk right down the path of burnout and that doesn’t benefit anyone.
4. Enhance Productivity
Want to be even more productive? Stepping away from the all-consuming duties of motherhood briefly can enhance focus and productivity when returning to daily tasks. You don’t need to do it all to be a good stay at home mom. It’s ok to take a break!
7 Creative Ways to Get Me Time At Home When You’re A Busy SAHM
Now that you know why me-time is so incredibly important, let’s get to the fun part! Here are 7 creative ways to incorporate it into your routine right at home, because I know as a stay at home mom it’s not always easy to get out of the house alone!
1. Early Morning Ritual
Set your alarm a bit earlier than usual to savor some quiet moments before your kids wake up. Use this time for meditation, yoga, journaling, or simply enjoying a hot cup of coffee or tea in peace. Starting your day with intentional “me-time” can set a positive tone for the hours ahead and really help you feel relaxed and ready for the day!
2. Create a Dedicated Space
Designate a corner of your home as your personal sanctuary. It could be a cozy reading nook, a spot for crafting, or even a small garden area. Having a designated space signals to yourself and others that this area is meant for relaxation and personal enjoyment and others will know to give you some time when you are in your special space.
3. Schedule Breaks
Incorporate short breaks into your daily routine. For example, during nap times or while your kids are occupied with a favorite activity, take 10-20 minutes (or more if you can) to engage in an activity you love! Whether it’s painting, listening to music, or reading a book, taking this time teaches your kids that it’s ok to take a break and relax. And that’s super important!
4. Virtual Connections
Stay connected with friends virtually. Although I’d love to tell you to do this in person, this blog is about making time at home. Even if online, chatting with a friend can still provide a refreshing change of pace. So, arrange regular video calls or virtual coffee chats with other moms or friends. Social interactions are truly so important, especially when you’re talking to a small child all day. Talking to an adult even for a short call can help you feel normal and recharged.
5. Take a Mom Time Out
I’m going to quote the greatest children’s show of all time right now (Bluey, duh!) There’s an episode where Chili (mum) says “Sometimes moms just need a minute.” And I’ve never felt so seen, honestly! Being a stay at home mom can become overwhelming at times, especially when our kids are constantly demanding our attention, touching us, or following us around. It’s ok to need a “mom time out” and take a few minutes to be alone and take some deep calming breaths. Especially if you’re on the verge of losing your crap (we’ve all been there) and few minutes can help calm you down and get back to mom business with more patience.
6. Mindful Parenting
Practice mindful parenting techniques that encourage independence in your children. You can do this by setting up activities that allow your kids to play independently, which is a great skill to have! By doing this, you can get pockets of “me-time” while ensuring your children are engaged and safe.
7. Prioritize Self Care
Make self care a non-negotiable part of your routine!! You matter mama, and taking time for you is not selfish ever. Schedule regular self care activities into your everyday routines. This could be, a relaxing bath, DIY spa treatments, reading a book, or simply taking a walk outdoors. Treating yourself with kindness and care is essential for your overall well-being AND your families well-being. Take care of you like you take care of your kids!
Final Thoughts on Me Time for Moms
At the end of the day, “me-time” is not a luxury but a necessity for stay at home moms. By implementing these creative strategies, you can carve out valuable moments of self care and rejuvenation within the comfort of your own home. Remember that taking care of yourself allows you to be a better mom and to better take care of your loved ones. It can also help you embrace the joys of motherhood with renewed energy and positivity. So, go ahead and prioritize yourself, mama! It’s an investment that benefits your entire family. Here’s to carving out precious “me-time” and embracing a healthier, happier you! You deserve it.
