How To Feel Fulfilled As A Stay At Home Mom

I’m a stay at home mom of 3 kids ages 9, 7, and 4 and I totally understand that stay at home moms can feel lonely and isolated. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and alone and just not like yourself, please know you’re not alone and you’re not weird. These things don’t make you a bad mom, they make you normal! But it’s also not super fun to feel these things either. And since I love helping stay at home moms thrive (no, you don’t need to live in survival mode forever) I’m writing this blog for you! If you want to know how to feel fulfilled as a stay at home mom again, try these 6 simple steps below. Make sure to let me know which ones you’ll start trying first in the comment section below!

1. Create a Simple Daily Routine

I can’t stress routines enough! Daily routines help bring structure to your day (and your kids’ days), making life feel less chaotic and more intentional. It doesn’t have to be rigid either. Just having a loose plan that includes time for household tasks, time for your kids, and time for yourself is great! Include naptime and bedtime routines as well. Knowing what to expect each day can bring a sense of control and accomplishment, which is beneficial for your and your children. Check out my morning routine checklist below to help you get started!

    2. Prioritize Self-Care Without Guilt

You deserve to be taken care of the same way your family is taken care of. I know it’s cliche, but you cannot pour from an empty cup. So make time for yourself each day because you matter! Whether it’s a 10-minute meditation, a hot shower, or a quick workout, I’m sure you can find 5 to 10 minutes daily for you. Taking care of your own needs helps you show up as a happier, more present mom and that mindset should help you feel less guilty about prioritizing yourself! For me, I always make time each morning for a shower because it helps me feel ready to take on the day.

    3. Find a Creative Outlet or Hobby

This is a big one if you’re wondering how to feel fulfilled as a stay at home mom. Many mothers feel they don’t have time or hobbies or an outlet, but you’re probably overthinking it. Doing something you love outside of motherhood can reignite your sense of identity. Find 10 minutes each day, maybe it’s when your kids are sleeping or watching a little TV, to do something you love! Whether it’s reading, crafting, photography, or gardening, having a creative outlet helps you feel like more than “just a mom.” For me, I created this blog as a creative outlet that gave me something to do as a SAHM and it’s been a really fun hobby!

    4. Connect with Other Moms

Motherhood can feel isolating, especially if you’re a stay at home mom, but you don’t have to do it alone. I know social media can poke fun at wanting to stay home and not be social, but it really is so important to find some mom friends. Try looking for a local mom groups in person first. If that’s not available for you, you can join online communities too, or simply schedule a coffee date with a friend. Sharing experiences and support with other moms makes the journey feel lighter. And you’ll realize most moms are going through the similar struggles and talking about them can make you feel a whole lot better!

    5. Set Personal Goals

It’s never too late to set some personal goals! Having something to work toward outside of parenting gives you a sense of progress and purpose. When thinking about goals, they could be as small as reading one book a month or as big as starting a side hustle. The sky is the limit honestly! And personal growth leads to fulfillment.

    6. Get Ready for the Day

Something I never skip is getting myself ready for the day. Get out of those pajamas, mama! Even if you change into a different pair of comfy clothes, getting dressed signals to your brain that you’re ready to start the day. Put on a little makeup and fix your hair too, because this will help you feel a little bit more like yourself. Plus when you look better, you feel better, and you do better!
