Celebrating Valentine’s Day Is Fun & Worth It

In a world that thinks celebrating Valentine’s Day is corny, I’m going against the grain. I love Valentine’s Day and I’ll tell you why you should love it too in this Quick Chat blog!

Celebrating Valentine’s Day is often looked at as cheesy or “commercialized.” Every year, as soon as February rolls around, people complain about the say thing: “Valentine’s Day is just a made-up holiday to sell cards and candy!” or “We shouldn’t need a special day to show love!” And ok, I get it where people are coming from, the marketing can get a bit intense. And of course love should be celebrated all year long! But realistically, Christmas and Easter are made up holidays that you probably celebrate, so why the big diss for Valentine’s Day?! In a world that hates this holiday, I love it anyway and here’s why.

5 Reasons You Should Be Celebrating Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is not more of a made up holiday than any other holiday. Here are 5 sweet reasons I think you should be celebrating Valentine’s Day with the ones you love!

1. Celebrating Valentine’s Day is a Built-In Reminder to Celebrate Love

Let’s face it, life gets really busy! Between kids, playdates, the laundry, keeping everyone fed, and finding anytime to just chat with your spouse, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind. Valentine’s Day gives us a little nudge to slow down and show love and appreciation, whether to your partner, your kids, or even ourselves. So yes, even though these things should be done daily, most of us have a lot going on. Having a little reminder to show a little extra love isn’t a bad thing.

2. It’s More Than Just Romantic Love

Celebrating Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to only be about your husband/wife/partner. Some of my favorite Valentine’s Days have been about celebrating friendships, family, and the tiny little joys of life. Preparing heart-shaped pancakes for the kids? Yes please! A fun movie night with my best friend? Absolutely! A moment to appreciate the people who make my life brighter? Always. So if you’re single (or not) celebrating any person in your life who you love is what this day is about.

3. Celebrating Valentine’s Day is Just Fun

Call it cheesy, call it commercialized, whatever, but when else do we get a whole day dedicated to pink, chocolate, and love notes? There’s something sweet (pun intended) about an excuse to indulge in cute treats, heart-covered everything, and extra hugs. And in the wild world we are living in right now, any excuse to have fun and celebrate is a good reason in my book! If you give in and celebrate Valentine’s Day you might realize it make your life and your kids life a little brighter and that’s a win.

4. Making Traditions with My Kids

Holidays are what we make of them. I love using Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to create little traditions with my children. Whether it’s making crafts together, writing love notes, baking something fun, or giving a little gift, we’re making family traditions that will last forever. And seeing the excitement in their eyes makes it all worth it! I still remember the gifts my parents got me on Valentine’s Day as a child, better than what I got on Christmas or my birthday.

5. Celebrating Valentine’s Day is a Mood Booster

Like I mentioned earlier, we live in a wild world, but also Winter can be long and dreary. Valentine’s Day can give you a little mid-season pop of color, joy, and a reason to celebrate, no matter how small. Who doesn’t need that? A little mood boosting, celebration never hurt anyone.

Final Thoughts

It’s not “why should you celebrate Valentine’s Day?” It’s “Why NOT celebrate it?!” At the end of the day, sure, maybe Valentine’s Day is a “Hallmark” holiday. But if a day dedicated to spreading love, eating chocolate, and making sweet memories is “wrong” then I don’t want to be right! 😉 Celebrating Valentine’s Day with the ones you love is fun and 100% worth it. You don’t need to go overboard, it’s not about that, but celebrating with a little stuffy or some candy and time together is fun and every child deserves some extra, extra love.
