You might find you lack patience with your kids, you’re constantly irritable for seemingly no reason, or you might feel detached or emotionally numb.

Overwhelming Fatigue

You’ll feel tired all the time, even after a full night’s sleep, even after having coffee in the morning. You might even wake up in the morning already dreading the day ahead.

Loss of Joy in Motherhood

This one might sting. But activities that once brought you joy might now feel like chores. That’s because you’re in survival mode instead of enjoying the little everyday moments.

Guilt and Inadequacy

    Burnout manifests differently for every mom, but there are common signs to watch for. These signs can be physical, emotional, or behavioral. Here are some of the most prevalent ones.

    Despite rest or downtime or finally sleeping through the night, if you feel constantly drained, tired, and low on energy you probably experiencing burnout.

    Recovering from mommy burnout isn’t an overnight process. It takes time and motivation. But with small, intentional steps, you can begin to feel more like yourself again! Here are some strategies to help you recover:

    It’s okay to admit that you’re struggling. Acknowledging your feelings is the first step to making changes. Write down these feelings and what you want to change in your day-to-day.

    After you have written down your feelings, don’t be afraid to reach out to your husband/partner, friends, or family for support. Delegating tasks and getting help can lighten your load significantly.

    I know it’s cliche but you can’t pour from an empty cup. So, remember that self care isn’t selfish; it’s necessary! When you get the chance once in a while, then go get your hair or nails done, or go out with some friends.

    Social media likes to poke fun at being anti-social and wanting to stay home instead of have friends. But, having a support system of other moms who understand what you’re going through can make a huge difference! Having adult conversation is needed when you are home with babies all day.     If you’re feeling extremely overwhelmed and unable to manage on your own, talking to a therapist can be extremely helpful. They can provide guidance, coping strategies, and emotional support. Please, please, please seek help if you are struggling in your day-to-day.

    Don’t be afraid to take a break when you need it. Even a few minutes alone to collect your thoughts can make a difference in your day. If you are home alone, I promise it’s ok to put your baby in a safe place, like their crib, and take a few minutes to yourself to breathe and regroup.

    8. Implement Mindfulness Practices

    Try incorporating practices like deep breathing, journaling, or meditation into your day to help center yourself and reduce stress. You can try this in the morning, during nap time, or while your child watches some TV.

    This one is huge! Identify what you can control and what you can’t. Let go of things beyond your reach and focus on what you can actively improve.

    10. Reevaluate Your Priorities

    Take a step back and look at yourself. Are you trying to meet unrealistic expectations? If you are, they are bringing you down and ruining your motherhood journey.
