A Fun and Relaxing Trip To Colorado For An Elegant Wedding
There’s nothing better than a child-free, parent trip to Colorado! Here is an overview of my and my husband’s trip to Boulder in 2019!
In August of 2019, my husband, Tom and I took a mini-vacation to Colorado for my cousin’s wedding. We spent 4 short days in Boulder and Denver, exploring, eating, and drinking. And it was awesome! Even though it was a short vacation, it was child-free, just the 2 of us, and it was perfect. Keep reading to learn more about our parent’s trip!
We landed at Denver Airport Thursday morning around 9. We had been awake since 3:30 am so we thought it would only make sense to take a trip down to Red Rocks Amphitheater. It was high on Tom’s list to check out, and it made the most sense for our schedule to go that day.
Well, Red Rocks delivered! It was so magnificent. The huge rocks and the theatre built right into them is truly unbelievable. Even the museum was so cool and rich with history. We would have loved to have seen a concert there, but it didn’t work out. Instead we got lunch at the restaurant right on site. It was not only delicious but had the best views!
After checking out Red Rocks for a while, we headed up to Boulder to our Marriott Courtyard Hotel. We spent most of our trip to Colorado in Boulder since it was where the wedding was.
Pearl Street Mall in Boulder, CO
Once we got to Boulder, CO we took a quick nap and then went to explore the town. Pearl Street Mall was by far the best part of Boulder. So many shops, restaurants, bars and breweries lined the streets. There was always something to do! It was super clean and nice as well. Everyone was beyond friendly…(well anyone is friendly when you’re from Boston.) But, it’s an up and coming town, super trendy and eco-friendly. Restaurants didn’t serve straws with your drink and there were recycle bins on every corner.
A Wedding on Our Trip to Colorado
Friday we chose to hang out around Boulder again. We didn’t want to go to far as the wedding was that night and staying local seemed easiest. My cousin got married at the Rembrandt Yard. It was a beautiful wedding. My cousin lives in Australia and her husband is from Colorado. So it was a fun group of people!
During the ceremony the bride and groom said their own vows and I’m pretty sure everyone in the room was bawling their eyes out. Side note: The groom broke his leg 2 weeks before the wedding….he was in a full cast, could not walk, and had a “KneeRover” scooter to get around. You would’ve never known though looking at his face– he made the best of it and was so happy the entire time. He even danced on one foot for their whole first dance! Look at my beautiful cousin below, she looks like a super model!
After the wedding we went to a bar in the basement of Hotel Boulderado. It’s one old hotel and very cool. If you’re ever in Boulder I highly recommend just checking out the hotel in general. It was built in the early 1900s and had much of the same design from that time…so it had a lot of character! And Tom and I are pretty sure there was a speakeasy in that basement at one point.
Saturday morning we left Boulder and it’s beautiful 360 degree views to head to Denver. We really wanted a chance to spend the day there and see a different city. Even though it didn’t come close to Boulder (sorry Denver) it was still a fun city. We checked out Union Station, which was very cool! It was such a happening place with so much charm.
After walking around for a bit we decided to try out the electric scooters to get around the city. Holy moly those were FUN! Maybe even in the top 3 of funnest things we did on our trip to Colorado! We scootered down to the capital building and to an outdoor mall to grab souvenirs for our kids. We rode on them for 8 freaking minutes but it felt like 28 minutes. LOL. We were so tired from doing so much in a short time.
Saturday night we got lunch at Rock Bottom Brewery, which was right across the street from our hotel. The nightlife in Denver seemed lively, but we were too exhausted. After dinner we hung out at our hotel and went to bed; anxious to get home to our babies the next day.
If you ever get a chance to go on a trip to Colorado I highly recommend checking out Red Rocks and the city of Boulder! They are both such gorgeous places and the people are so sweet. I’m so happy I got a chance to visit and to be able to see my cousin get married. It was a short trip but it was an awesome trip! Colorado we will see you again someday! If you’re looking for a “parent’s weekend away” or a “couples getaway,” I highly recommend Boulder or Denver Colorado!
