A Sweet and Simple Cupcake Birthday Party For Mallory

My baby is 2. Two years old! Where does the time go?! I’m pretty sure I had her like 2 DAYS ago…I feel like you have one baby and time speeds up, then you have another baby and it literally flashes like lightening right before your eyes until you have no idea what happened to two years of your life.

Time is a thief.

But anyway, I really just want to share the adorable little party we threw for our sweet Mal Gal’s birthday this past weekend!

We decided after the catastrophe of her first birthday– a funny story now, but a story for another day– that we would have her party somewhere that was not our house. We chose our favorite little play place, Busy Little Bees.

Mallory chose cupcake invitations when she took a trip to Walmart with her Dada. Not exactly the theme I would have chosen, but it ended up being super cute. Nothing too extravagant or difficult…or so I thought.

I attempted to bake a beautiful cupcake cake for Mallory. After all, my parents always made mine and my sister’s birthday cakes from scratch when we were growing up. I try to keep that tradition alive, but this year I opted out of my typical double layer, round cake, and bought a fancy pan to make an over sized “cup cake” cake. Link to that is here if you want a visual.

Well, I failed epically. That vision in my head of the cake was not what it looked like in real life. And before you say anything, yes I practiced about a month prior. Anyway…I made my normal homemade frosting and for some reason, when I started spreading it on the cake, the cake fell apart, the frosting didn’t actually spread, it dripped, and it was just a disaster. Like it was so bad I cannot even share a picture of it. It’s too embarrassing! (LOL)

So, I told my husband he had to run out to the store and find a cake that fed 25 people. And he delivered….a Hello Kitty cake, and the only girly cake available at our local super market last minute. (Market Basket for the win!)

And, well that was really the worst of it. Mallory had so much fun at her birthday party. Seven of her closest little friends and cousins came to eat pizza and cake with her. To pretend play, run around, go down slides, and more!

She couldn’t even stop to take a darn picture. And the pictures I did get, not one smile. I’m pretty sure she did not stop moving for 3 hours straight!

I decorated simply with all decorations from Walmart! Get this…you can throw a simple and fun party that your kids will love, without spending a fortune. Extravagant isn’t my thing. Neither is decorating.

All our closest family and friends were there to celebrate and that’s the best kind of birthday party we could ask for!
