Why Moms Need Daily Routines and Healthy Habits

If you’re thinking routines and structure are boring and mindless, please reconsider. While doing the same things day in and day out can feel mundane, there is a reason for them. Humans are innately creatures of habit. Even if it sounds boring, we really do crave routines, and so do our kids! Children need structure to feel safe, confident, and secure. I have a whole blog about that here, so I won’t get too into it right now. But ultimately, routines and structure will help your household go from chaos to calm!

You need these daily habits, as a stay at home mom, to enable you to be more productive, to manage a household, to have intentional time with your kids, to allow breaks throughout the day for yourself, and to well, stay sane! There’s nothing bad about creating healthy daily habits and SO many really amazing things. So why not at least give it a try?

Here are 5 daily habits for stay at home moms that will help you stay sane!

If you’re ready to help your family home run more smoothly, to feel more calm, and really enjoy motherhood again then try these 5 daily habits for stay at home moms! I really feel they will bring you so much more peace, intention, and joy in your daily life, which in turn will help you become an ever better mama.

1. Get ready for the day

This is truly the most important one, I think. Getting yourself ready every morning when you’re a stay at home mom is a mindset that brings so much change to your life. It helps you start your day with purpose and intention. Start your day with a quick shower, put real clothes on, even if it’s just leggings and a sweatshirt, just get out of your pajamas! Then style your hair and put on some makeup. It’s 30 minutes of your day to set it up for success. You will feel more motivated and productive because when you look better, you feel better…and you do better!

2. Keep up with laundry

I highly recommend setting up a laundry system so you are not behind on it. I hear so many moms say they have piles and piles of laundry, clean and dirty, and just can’t seem to keep up with it. They have chairs of laundry, they push it off their bed at night so they can sleep, or it stays in the dryer for days before finally being folded. So, with that being said, if you are sick of being behind on laundry and it feels never-ending, I promise there is a way to maintain it and do it without feeling as if you’re drowning in laundry.

I created the Ultimate Laundry Guide for stay at home moms who just can’t seem to keep up with it and are ready to create a solid laundry routine so they can! Learn more about my Laundry Guide.

3. Get out of the house/outside

To keep your sanity when you’re a stay at home mom, getting outside is key. It can be just outside in your backyard if that’s all you’re feeling up to, or it can be getting out of the house completely and going out. Whatever you decide is great! Getting outside is so good for your mental health and your children’s! And there is something about being outside that just makes being a SAHM feel easier, most likely because kids just seem to act better when they are outside.

If you want to really get out of your house, heading to your local library, running errands, or just grabbing a quick coffee to-go are all great options! You don’t need to be out of the house all day, sometimes 20 minutes is all you need. You decide what you need for that day and do it!

4. Do something for yourself

Just because you’re a mom doesn’t mean you shouldn’t think about yourself. Trust me, I’ve gone straight down the path of not taking care of myself and ended up burnt out AF. It’s not fun and it doesn’t make you a better mom. So the keyword here is: Better Mom! You want to be a better mom everyday? Then take care of yourself every single day. Take care of yourself by drinking enough water and eating REAL meals everyday, not just your kids leftover crust! Take a shower everyday, get dressed, and move your body. Take a solo walk or one with your kids, do something you love. Anything, even if it’s 5 minutes for yourself, is worth it to keep your proverbial cup full.

5. Mindful Time Management

Effective time management is key to avoiding feeling overwhelmed by household tasks. Implementing a daily schedule or to-do list can help structure your day and provide a sense of accomplishment. Prioritize tasks based on importance and urgency, but also be realistic about what you can achieve in a day, you don’t have to do it all! Remember, it’s okay to ask for help or delegate tasks to family members if possible. By managing your time mindfully, you can reduce stress and increase productivity.
