Best Christmas Books for Children
I’m counting backwards to my favorite Christmas book for kids because I want to save the very best for last! So here we go, a quick list of the best Christmas books for children:
Snowmen At Christmas by Carlyn Buehner is an adorable companion story to Snowmen at Night. This book is so cute and creative, you will love how your child will use their imagination while reading this book!
How to Catch an Elf by Adam Wallace is a fun and exciting rhyming story about all the clever ways you can try to catch an Elf. The whole “How to Catch” series of books are favorites in our home!
I Spy Christmas is a great option for older preschoolers/kindergarteners. My family loves the rhyming riddles and searching for items on every bright colored page. These were even a favorite of mine when I was a kid! They are truly timeless books.
Construction Site on Christmas Night by Sherri Duskey Rinker is perfect for boys and girls! This fun rhyming story captions a construction crews point of view on Christmas Eve and has an adorable surprise ending! Again, this whole series of books by Rinker is a favorite in our home.
Little Blue Truck’s Christmas by Alice Schertle is a super cute, rhyming book for toddlers and preschoolers. If you’re familiar with this series, Little Blue always teaches an important lesson and this book even works on numbers and counting! It’s definitely a win-win.
Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett is a fun take on the classic, Gingerbread Boy. It’s a cute story about a boy who bakes gingerbread that come alive. And this end has a super fun surprise your child will LOVE!

Llama Llama Holiday Drama by Anna Dewdney is a great book for that very, very excited toddler in your life! Llama has a hard time waiting and is counting down to Christmas — but there’s a special lesson in this book too.
Merry Christmas, Little Pookie by Sandra Boynton is a classic for the littlest loves in your life. Boynton board books are a favorite for my 2 year old and have been for a long time! Pookie is an adorable character who is excited to do all the things with him mama on Christmas Eve.
Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by Eric Litwin is a take on the tale, The Night Before Christmas. And I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again….this is another series of books we just LOVE in our home. Get groovy with Pete the Cat this Christmas, these books are always silly and cool!
Gingerbread Mouse by Katy Bratun is a heartwarming story about a little mouse who is on the hunt for a new home on Christmas — and finds it in the most unexpected place. This book is one you will want to snuggle up and read together over and over again!
And last by not least, my very favorite Christmas story:
The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg is by far the best Christmas book for children in my opinion. It is a classic tale about believing in the spirit of Christmas and it truly gives me the goosebumps every time I read it to my kids.
